2 Suit Spider Solitaire is the middle difficulty Spider mode. The layout matches classic Spider, but the two-suit deck means mixed stacks are sometimes useful temporarily while same-suit sequences are still required to clear cards.

Cards
104 cards, two suits
Tableau
10 columns
Stock
50 cards dealt 10 at a time
Goal
Clear eight same-suit sequences
Difficulty
Medium Spider mode

Objective

The objective is to clear all eight King-to-Ace sequences. In 2 Suit Spider, a completed run only clears when every card in that run belongs to the same suit.

Setup and Play Area

  • 2 Suit Spider uses 104 cards split between two suits.
  • Ten tableau columns start with the standard Spider deal: four columns with six cards and six columns with five cards.
  • Only the top card in each column starts face up.
  • The remaining 50 cards form the stock and are dealt one card to each column at a time.

Available Moves

  • Move a face-up card onto a card exactly one rank higher.
  • Move a descending same-suit sequence as a stack.
  • Use mixed-suit stacks when necessary, but remember they cannot move as full stacks until suit order is repaired.
  • Deal from the stock only when every tableau column has at least one card.
  • Clear a complete same-suit King-to-Ace sequence automatically.

2 Suit Spider Solitaire Strategy

  • Prioritize suit purity when two moves reveal the same number of cards. A clean same-suit run is much easier to move later.
  • Mixed-suit stacks are acceptable when they uncover face-down cards or create an empty column, but repair them before the board gets crowded.
  • Use empty columns to split mixed runs and rebuild them into same-suit order.
  • Before dealing from the stock, make sure each existing column is as organized as possible because new cards can trap mixed stacks.
  • If a stock deal buries a key card, undo and try a different tableau order before dealing.

Variants

  • 1 Suit Spider is easier because every descending run behaves as one suit.
  • 4 Suit Spider is harder because four suits create many more mixed-stack traps.
  • 2 Suit Spider is often the best long-term practice mode because it teaches suit management without the full difficulty of 4 Suit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 2 Suit Spider Solitaire harder than 1 Suit?

Yes. 2 Suit Spider adds suit management, so not every descending run can move or clear as one stack.

Should I build mixed-suit stacks in 2 Suit Spider?

Sometimes. Mixed stacks can be useful to uncover cards, but same-suit stacks are stronger because they can move together and eventually clear.

What is the biggest mistake in 2 Suit Spider?

The biggest mistake is dealing from the stock before using empty columns and same-suit moves to clean up the tableau.

2 Suit Spider Solitaire adds more planning than the 1-suit game while staying faster than the full 4-suit challenge. Build same-suit King-to-Ace sequences to clear the board.

How to Play

Move face-up cards onto cards one rank higher. Same-suit descending sequences can move together. When a full King-to-Ace sequence is complete, it clears from the tableau. Deal from the stock when no useful moves remain.

Spider Solitaire Variants

1-suit Spider is best for beginners, 2-suit Spider adds more planning, and 4-suit Spider is the hardest version. Each mode uses the same core rules with a different level of difficulty.
